Every citizen of the country, male and female, enjoys the right to education and employment in an environment of safety and security. The Constitution of India provides for “Gender Equality” and the “Right to life and liberty” to all persons under Articles 14, 19 and 21.It is thus the duty and mandate of every organization to provide maintenance of the fundamental rights to live and work with dignity for all employees: male and female. At the same time, persons sometimes face violations of their fundamental rights. This necessitates the establishment of safeguards to provide gender equality. Due to the historical reasons, working women, often face difficulties and challenges at the work place, thereby necessitating the need for protective measures that safeguard women’s rights and safety.

ABOUT THE CELL

Women Cell of CSI College of Engineering is established with the motto of “towards self empowered mind“. The cell aims to empower girl students and faculty, enhance their understanding of issues related to women and to make the college campus a safe place for girls and women and to address the practical issues related to the welfare and equal opportunities for Women faculty, staff and students.

With a view to take up women’s issues and problems, the cell aims at creating awareness of their rights and duties. It also provides a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society. Added to it suggestions for improvement and empowerment among themselves has been given. Aiming at intellectual and social upliftment of the female students, the cell stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through guest lectures, seminars, awareness programs and other welfare activities.

VISION

To promote general well-being of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the College and to provide and maintain a dignified, congenial working environment for women and enable them to explore their imminent potential in all aspects.

MISSION

To train women to acquire wide range of skills and knowledge and to develop and increase their social, economic and intellectual capacities for peace, security and prosperity of mankind.

OBJECTIVES

  • Identification of strong leadership, change-makers among women and girls and building their capacity.
  • To promote a culture of respect and equality for female gender.
  • To organize awareness programs on gender sensitization.
  • The provision of opportunities and programs for girls and women to be financially, mentally and emotionally empowered to promote their growth as individuals in their own right.
  • To conduct seminars and workshop to impart knowledge of opportunities and tools available and train the women.
  • Arranging seminars to create awareness on the economic, social, political, and legal rights of women.
  • Organizing different activities to make women aware of their health, sports, self-defense etc.
  • Conducting various competitions to encourage their artistic talents for creative thinking
  • To highlight the importance of spirituality, health, hygiene and safety
  • Celebration of International Womens Day on March 8th, every year
  • To inculcate entrepreneurial attitude among young girls, scientists at the earliest so that they can be “job providers” rather than “job seekers”.
  • Counseling services for resident and non – resident students

The event Awareness program on Personal Health and Hygiene was held on 8/3/17 by the resource person Dr.Hajana Begum, Medical officer, GPHC , Ketti, at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm . Around 100 volunteers participated in that program.

The Celebration of International Women’s Day was held on 8/3/18 with the resource person Dr. Tilagavathy, Rtd. Director, Institute of Vernirology, Madras Medical  College, Chennai at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm .She held sessions on personal Health and Hygiene for women. Around 103 volunteers participated in that program.

The Celebration of International Women’s Day was held on 8/3/19 with the guest Adv. Najuma, Ooty at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm . Around 109  participated in that program. In this, Adv. Najuma explained about the problems that women and girls face in the society along with some legal to over come them.

The Celebration of International Women’s day 2020 with the theme was held on 9/3/20 with the guest Ms.Premalatha, Asst prog director, All India Radio, Ooty at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm. Around 114  participated in that program.

Women staff who completed 20 years of service since the inception of CSICE, were felicitated by the Principle, Dr. J. Joshua Gnanasekaran. All the women staff and women students attended the function. Lunch was provided to all the participants and Guests. Women doing public service in and around Ketti, were also felicitated, as follows:

  1. Medical Office, Coonoor Block.
  2. Asst Bank Manager, Canara Bank, Yellanalli branch.
  3. Police constable (2 no’s), Ketti Women Police Station.
  4. Post Women, Ketti post office.
  5. Program Director, All India Radio,Ooty.

 Previously various school students of Nilgiris District took participated in various culturals like dance, drama, music and speech.

The Celebration of International Women’s Day 2021, with the theme was held on 8/3/21 with the guest Dr. Quinee, CSIHSS, Ooty at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm . 107  participated in this program Dr.Quinee delivered her talk on personality development

The Web Talk on “Higher Stiudies, Research, Govt. Jobs and IT Jobs” was held on 12/6/21 with the guest i) Er. Jegan Sylvester, Senior Team Manager, CTS, Chennai. ii) Prof. Chelladurai R, Asst. Prof. KL Univ, Andhra; cum proprietor, IAS Academy, Andhra at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm . around 104 volunteers participated in that program.

The Celebration of International Women’s Day with the theme, “We make change work for Women.” was held on 8/3/22 with the guest Mrs. Angelin Felicia, Exam-co-ordinator cum PG Co-ordinator, CSICE at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 1.00pm .  87 participated in that program.

The Celebration of International Women’s Day with the theme, “We make change work for Women.” was held on 4/11/22 with the guest Dr.Jane Kamal, Ophthalmologist and Dr.Kamalakar, Ortho specialist, CSICE at Mechanical conference hall between 10.00am to 12.30pm .  110 participated in that program.

Dr.Jane Kamal delivered a talk on eye protection and Dr.Kamalakar explained about ortho safety in his talk.
