M.E. Power Electronics and Drives

M.E. Power Electronics and Drives –Stands for Master of Engineering in Power Electronics and Drives. The M.E. degree is typically for two years, minimum eligibility for which is a degree in B.Tech. or B.E. The Department was established in the year 2013. The PED specialization offers core competences in power electronic converters, electrical machines and control engineering. The department emphasizes towards imparting quality education, rigorous teaching-learning, hands-on expertise and helping students to shape their all-round personality. The department with its strong pool of faculty, well-developed laboratories, latest software and hardware facilities, contributes to develop life-long learning skills to its post-graduate students. The department is preparing to actively involve in funded research projects apart from offering design, analysis and testing based consultancy work to relevant industries.

The objectives of the Power Electronics and Drives are to provide:
  • Detailed understanding of the operation, function and interaction between various components and sub-systems used in power electronic converters, electric machines and adjustable-speed drives
  • Knowledge enabling design, modeling, simulation and synthesis of power converter-based systems used for conversion of electric energy
  • Experience in design of controllers for PED systems using classical and modern control theory
  • Experience in the practical implementation of controllers using for example digital signal processors
  • To enable to develop, construct, operate and test power electronic converters and drives in the laboratory

PG power electronics and drives lab: Various types of converters including rectifiers, AC controllers and inverters are available for extensive experimentation along with equipments like DSP Controllers, power quality analyzers and CROs. In addition to the equipments of regular lab course, following hardware equipments and software are available additionally.
